With daily use of your kitchen, you’re bound to encounter the occasional kitchen plumbing problem. Some of them can be fixed with a set of tools, but for many issues, it’s best to get the help of a City Plumbing Services plumber. Here’s our list of a few common kitchen plumbing problems you should watch out for.

Be careful, not everything can be put down your garbage disposal.

Clogged Garbage Disposal

A clogged or jammed garbage disposal can cause your kitchen plumbing to back up and really slow down usage of your kitchen. Your garbage disposal can handle a lot of waste, but certainly not all of it.

To address the clog, first, make sure to turn off the breaker that powers the disposal. Then, shine a flashlight down your disposal and try and remove any visible objects with a pair of long-handled pliers. Test the disposal by running hot water through while it’s on. Hopefully, it’ll be good to go, but if not, it’s best to call a plumber to check it out. Also, remember to avoid throwing these foods down the disposal:

  • Eggshells
  • Chicken bones
  • Coffee grounds
  • Fibrous fruits & vegetables
  • Potato skins
Fridge Water Line Malfunction

If you notice a small pool of water under your fridge, you might have a water line problem on your hands.

But make sure it is, in fact, a water line problem before you call for help. The puddle of water could be from condensation dripping onto the floor from your fridge. This can happen if your fridge isn’t level, which can cause the coolant to get backed up on the coils and cause condensation. If it’s not that and you suspect it is a leak, check to see if there are problems with your ice maker and if your water is slow to dispense.

Low Water Pressure

Low water pressure could mean a big problem. If you only notice it with your kitchen faucet, however, it might only be a problem with a clogged aerator.

An aerator is a small, circular grate screwed into the opening tip of your faucet. Since Arizona has some hard water, the water probably left some mineral deposits that collected on the aerator. Simply unscrew it and clean it with a wire brush. If that doesn’t solve the problem, have your pipes that lead to your kitchen faucet checked.

Leaky Faucet

While we’re on the topic of kitchen faucets, a leaking faucet is a common, and annoying, kitchen plumbing problem.

The main problem with a leaky faucet? It could have many possible culprits. One common cause is a worn-out washer. Or, if it’s leaking from the base, it could be a worn O-ring seal. These are common places for leaks but can be easily fixed yourself with a few tools and some elbow grease.

Broken Dishwasher

Dishwashers can be an expensive investment, so it can be a huge pain when it breaks. Some of the most common issues with dishwashers are they won’t fill, run, or drain. If it won’t run, it could be because of a poor electrical connection. If you check the circuit that controls your dishwasher and that isn’t the problem, it’s time to call an experienced plumber from City Plumbing Services to help.
